War Secretary Pete Hegseth's plane makes 'unscheduled landing' after windshield crack

An aircraft carrying War Secretary Pete Hegseth made an "unscheduled landing" Wednesday afternoon in the United Kingdom.

Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell announced on social media that on the way back to the U.S. from NATO's Defense Ministers meeting, Hegseth's "plane made an unscheduled landing in the United Kingdom due to a crack in the aircraft windshield."

The plane landed based on standard procedures and everyone onboard, including Hegseth, was safe, according to Parnell.

"All good. Thank God," Hegseth wrote in an X post. "Continue mission!"

The Boeing aircraft descended to 10,000 feet, a standard emergency altitude, following a possible cabin depressurization, according to flight tracking data.

It is unclear what caused the alleged crack in the plane's windshield.

Less than a month ago, President Donald Trump and the first lady had to transfer from Marine One to a support helicopter after a hydraulic issue forced an unscheduled landing at a local airfield on the way to Stansted Airport in England.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Sept. 18 the switch was due to a "minor hydraulic issue," and the president and first lady safely boarded the support helicopter.

In February, Secretary of State Marco Rubio was on his way to Munich, Germany from Washington, D.C. for the Munich Security Conference, when the plane he was traveling in experienced a mechanical issue involving the cockpit windshield.

About 90 minutes into the flight, the C-32, a converted Boeing 757, turned around and landed at Joint Base Andrews.

Rubio continued his travel to Germany and the Middle East on a different aircraft.
