Dubai’s Civil Aviation Authority Offers Free Accommodation for Stranded Passengers as Airspace Restrictions Continue

In response to the ongoing disruption caused by the temporary closure of the UAE’s airspace, the United Arab Emirates’ Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has announced that it will cover the cost of food and accommodation for all travelers stranded at airports across the country. This significant measure comes as part of the UAE’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers amid ongoing security concerns in the region.

The decision follows the cancellation of all flights to and from the UAE after the temporary airspace closure, which has left thousands of passengers stranded, particularly in Dubai, one of the busiest international hubs. The GCAA issued an official statement on March 1, 2026, confirming that the state would bear all hosting and accommodation costs for affected passengers during the ongoing operational adjustments.

In total, more than 20,000 passengers have been impacted by the disruption of flight schedules. Dubai International Airport (DXB) and other UAE airports have been working tirelessly to provide temporary accommodation and meals for these stranded travelers. Airlines like Emirates and Etihad have also been coordinating with authorities to facilitate the rebooking process and manage incoming and outgoing flights affected by the temporary suspension.

Stranded passengers have been transported to temporary accommodations where they are provided with food, refreshments, and access to essential services. In addition, airlines have been working with local authorities to support the safe and efficient management of passenger flow, allowing affected travelers to continue their journeys once operations return to normal.

While many flights remain suspended, UAE’s national carriers Emirates and flydubai have begun to resume a limited number of flights. Emirates confirmed that it would operate a reduced schedule starting from the evening of March 2, 2026, prioritizing passengers with existing bookings. The airline urged passengers not to go to the airport unless they had been contacted directly by the airline, highlighting that all other flights would remain suspended for the time being.

For travelers who have been affected by the flight cancellations, Emirates has offered options to rebook flights or request a refund. Passengers are advised to check the airline’s website for the latest updates and review their booking statuses to ensure they receive timely notifications.

The GCAA confirmed that airports and airlines are closely monitoring the flight situation in the region, with coordination ongoing to ensure the safe resumption of services. Passengers are advised to stay informed through official communication channels and to directly contact their respective airlines for updates on flight statuses.

Additionally, UAE authorities are maintaining heightened security at airports and are working with the relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety of passengers and staff. While this situation remains dynamic, the UAE is committed to resolving the disruptions and supporting those affected.

As the airspace restrictions continue, it is essential for travelers to remain patient and flexible. The Civil Aviation Authority has emphasized the importance of following official updates from airlines and airports to stay informed about any changes to flight schedules. Those with existing bookings are encouraged to monitor their airlines’ websites and communication channels for further updates on potential rebookings or cancellations.

For passengers stranded in the UAE, the Civil Aviation Authority and airlines have reassured them that accommodation and meals will be provided at no cost. The situation is being monitored closely, and travelers are advised to stay in contact with airlines for the latest developments.

The UAE’s decision to cover accommodation and food costs for stranded passengers is a significant step in managing the challenges posed by the ongoing airspace disruptions. While the situation remains fluid, the authorities are working to restore normal flight operations as soon as possible. With airlines like Emirates and flydubai resuming limited flights, the country’s aviation sector is taking steps to ensure that affected travelers are supported throughout the process.

As the situation evolves, passengers are encouraged to remain patient and stay updated through official channels. The UAE’s prompt and comprehensive response to the crisis reflects its dedication to ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of all travelers during these uncertain times.
